I always knew that I didn’t want to go to hospital for the birth of a child. I was a home birth myself and my niece was born in a birth centre. So I was already familiar with alternatives to hospitals.

My partner and I immediately liked Maja so much that we registered there straight away. We felt that we were in excellent hands there throughout our pregnancy. Our personal midwife was always very friendly, competent and made me feel that I was in good hands at all times. At Maja, they take a lot of time to look after pregnant women, which is a very pleasant contrast to the hectic pace of most doctors’ surgeries. You never have the feeling that you have to hurry and can talk about everything to do with your child in peace and quiet.

The care during the birth was also great. At every second I had the feeling that everything was fine and that I could just concentrate fully on the birth. Although our midwife had already had a very long working day the day before, she remained calm, professional and friendly the whole time and accompanied us through the labour. It is very pleasant to have a midwife at your side who you have already got to know throughout your pregnancy. It gives you great confidence and a feeling of security. When my strength waned, she was able to encourage me to keep going. The second midwife, who was called in towards the end of the birth, also gave me excellent support until I was finally able to happily hold my son in my arms.

I am now pregnant again and it was very clear to my partner and I that we would go back to Maja, again with our trusted midwife at our side. My partner’s sister is now also being cared for at Maja and is very happy with her choice.

I gave birth to both my children at Geburtshaus Maja in Prenzlauer Berg. When I was pregnant with my first child, I was amazed to realise how early you have to decide where to give birth. I had only just realised that I was really pregnant and that I was going to stay pregnant when I had to choose the type of delivery – and confront the pain of birth.

I am very glad that I was able to give birth at Geburtshaus Maja. We had also done the prenatal class with Susanne at the birth centre, which confirmed our decision (even against the advice of some family members). Geburtshaus Maja with its intimate, calm atmosphere immediately appealed to me. Our midwife was Sabine and she gave me all the freedom I needed (prenatal care with the gynaecologist or with her, at Maja or at home) and provided me with competent and empowering information on all my questions. It was important to me that I and the child could have time for the birth, that there would only be intervention if absolutely necessary and that we would initially be given the confidence to manage it ourselves. And I experienced this in both pregnancies, births and postnatal care. The birth centre and, of course, the continuous, competent and loving care of midwife Sabine created an atmosphere of trust in ourselves in relation to this great task and challenge of having children.

I was pregnant with my first child and the shortage of midwives quickly became apparent to me too. Fortunately, I came across the midwife team at Geburtshaus Maja and was warmly welcomed. I decided to take the full programme, i.e. prenatal care, birth and postnatal care.

I felt very well looked after during my pregnancy. The midwives are always up to date with almost all the latest findings. They took a lot of time for every examination and also showed consideration for the person accompanying me. Despite a very rapid birth, the midwives remained very calm and gave me great support and guidance. After the birth, we first had time for ourselves as a family and were able to recover. Then we went home. The next morning, the midwife came to us straight away and looked after us at regular intervals throughout the entire postnatal period. As far as possible, the midwives tried to act in a needs-orientated manner in every situation and also gave me the chance to clarify any uncertainties afterwards.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the whole team at Geburtshaus Maja once again for their loving and supportive care during my pregnancy, birth and postnatal period.

A few weeks before my due date, I decided to register at Geburtshaus Maja after all – fortunately, a spot had become available again. The thought of going to a hospital to give birth had somehow always made me a little uncomfortable… When everything went faster than expected on the “birthday”, it was only half an hour from our arrival at the birth centre until our daughter was born. Our midwife stood by my side calmly and competently. I couldn’t have imagined a better place for our baby to be born, I really like the Maja birth centre.

After our first child was unfortunately born in hospital, which was not a pleasant experience due to the impersonal, efficiency-driven environment, we were determined to have our second in a birth centre. And it was even better than we could have imagined: Very relaxed atmosphere, great all-round care from the midwives and full self-determination. We were able to go home just a few hours after the birth and get to know each other in peace. I would give birth to any further child in a birth centre and can only encourage everyone to do the same.
